Impact Wrestling is a privately held American professional wrestling promotion based in Nashville, Tennessee and founded by Anthem Sports & Entertainment in 2017. It is part of the Big 4 of American professional wrestling alongside WWE, All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor.
After the promotion was formed by Anthem at the beginning of 2017 out of the old Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, it became known simply as Impact Wrestling, after its main television series, until later that year when it acquired the original Global Force Wrestling, also founded by Jeff Jarrett, and assumed the GFW name.
In September 2017 just nine months after formation GFW began losing funds very quickly this was when they were bought out by the WWE, with them allowing GFW to continue operating under WWE ownership. Under WWE ownership the company was rebranded Impact Wrestling and in June 2019, 50% of the company was sold back to Anthem Sports. The remaining 50% was sold to Anthem in 2022. The promotion will close in January 2024 and will be replaced by the returning Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
