Judgment Day (2017) was professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by the WWE, exclusive to the SmackDown brand. It took place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It was the twelfth event produced by the WWE under the Judgment Day name and first since 2009.

Background[]

At WrestleMania 33 after defeating Bray Wyatt in the main event, The Undertaker indicated his retirement from professional wrestling by leaving his gloves, trench coat, hat and the WWE Championship in the ring. On the April 4, 2017 episode of SmackDown it was announced that Undertaker had indeed retired from professional wrestling and had vacated the WWE Championships. As a result of this a tournament was set up between 16 different SmackDown superstarts to culiminate in a match at Judgment Day to win the vacant title.
