The World Tag Team Championship was the original professional wrestling world tag team championship contested for in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It served as the only title for tag teams in WWE from 1971 until 2002 when a second WWE Tag Team Championship was established after the introduction of the WWE brand extension, where wrestlers and championships became exclusive to a WWE brand. Both titles were unified in 2009 into the "Unified WWE Tag Team Championship" but remained independently active until the World Tag Team Championship was decommissioned in 2010. The championship was contested in professional wrestling matches. The title was revived in August 2016 as the tag team titles for the SmackDown brand. The titles are currently held by the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) who are in their first reign as champions.
